Common FAQs About clear Aligners

The Clear aligner Process

At Lifestyle Dental Care in Margate, Dr. Jean will call you in for a consultation so we can evaluate your teeth. We will need to rule out oral health problems or get these problems treated before you can begin Invisalign treatment.

X-rays of your teeth will show us if your teeth are healthy enough to withstand orthodontic treatment and whether or not you’re a good candidate for Invisalign. Impressions are taken of your teeth and sent to the Invisalign lab along with scans and photos of your teeth so they can fabricate custom aligners for you to wear.

Your treatment plan is formulated by uploading these scans to a digital mapping software that allows the lab technician to digitally plan your tooth movements to determine how many aligners you will need, how the teeth will move, and how long it will take.

We have access to this software in our office so we can make adjustments to this treatment plan and show you the digital model of your teeth. Once your aligners are ready, you will pick them up and begin wearing them.

Every 6 weeks, you’ll have a regular checkup so we can give you more aligners and check on your progress. Aligners need to be changed every 2 weeks and these progressively shift your teeth.

How Long Does Clear Aligner Therapy Take?

Clear Aligner treatment times is generally similar to treatment with traditional braces, with the average treatment length being 12 to 24 months. However, each person’s individual case will be different and the length of treatment is dependent on the severity of orthodontic alignment and compliance with treatment.

It can take as little as 6 months to correct minor cosmetic issues like small gaps, but if you have more severe malocclusions, you may need to wear your aligners for much longer. We can give you a very accurate estimate of how long treatment will take during your consultation.

The length of treatment also is heavily dependent on wearing your aligners every single day for at least 22 hours. Taking your aligners out too frequently can prevent your teeth from fully shifting and your next set of aligners will not fit. You’ll then have to backtrack to an old set of aligners which will prolong your treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for Clear Aligner Therapy?

Clear Aligners can correct the following problems:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Gaps
  • Overcrowding
  • Underbite
  • Overbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite

The best candidates for clear aligners are patients with minor to moderate orthodontic problems. However, if you have more severe bite problems, we can bond attachments to your teeth and pair them with elastics to correct these problems as well.

To qualify for clear aligner treatment, you need to be in good oral health and willing to care for your aligners and wear them for 22 hours a day. This is why clear aligners are best for adults or older teens but is not recommended for younger patients because it requires a lot of self-accountability.

If you have severe bite problems, clear aligners may not be a good choice for you and you may be a better candidate for braces. During your consultation appointment we can determine which options for aligning your teeth are the best fit for you

What is Invisalign and how is it different from traditional metal braces?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that straightens your teeth using a series of clear, removable aligners. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign doesn’t rely on wires or brackets. Instead, the smooth plastic trays are custom-made to gradually shift your teeth into place over time.

For patients looking to improve their smile without the noticeable look of metal braces, Invisalign offers a discreet and comfortable alternative. Many adults and teens appreciate the freedom to remove the aligners when eating or brushing, making it easier to maintain oral hygiene throughout treatment.

At Lifestyle Dental Care in Margate, Dr. Philippe Jean utilizes advanced scanning technology to ensure Invisalign aligners are a perfect fit for your individual smile. This is part of our personalized, no-pressure approach to dentistry, you’ll get clear recommendations based on your goals, never a sales pitch.

Am I a good candidate for Invisalign if I am an adult?

Absolutely. Many adults are choosing Invisalign because it's subtle, effective, and fits easily into a professional or busy lifestyle. Whether you're dealing with crowding, gaps, overbites, or regression after orthodontic treatment earlier in life, Invisalign can often address these concerns very successfully.

Most adults are pleasantly surprised at how comfortably and discreetly clear aligners work for them. Dr. Philippe Jean brings his expertise and warm, approachable style to every Invisalign consultation, helping patients understand their options without pressure.

If you're interested in improving your smile without the hassle of metal braces, our team will evaluate your dental alignment and oral health during your visit to Lifestyle Dental Care to determine if Invisalign is the right fit for your needs.

How long does the Invisalign treatment process usually take?

The timeline for Invisalign treatment varies from patient to patient, but many adults complete their treatment within 12 to 18 months. Minor alignment issues might take as little as six months, while more complex cases could require up to two years of treatment. What’s unique about Invisalign is the level of customization, every aligner is precisely mapped out based on your unique dental structure.

You’ll change to a new set of aligners approximately every one to two weeks, gradually bringing your teeth into their desired position. Throughout treatment, Dr. Jean monitors your progress to ensure everything is moving as planned.

Since Lifestyle Dental Care offers full-service dentistry in one location, we can also handle other oral health needs throughout your treatment, such as teeth cleanings and other necessary care like fillings. Our goal is always to make your Invisalign treatment as easy and comfortable as possible.

What happens after my teeth are straightened with Invisalign?

Once your Invisalign treatment is complete, you'll move into the retention phase, an important (and often underestimated) part of keeping your smile aligned. A custom-made retainer will help your teeth hold their new position and prevent them from gradually shifting back. For many patients, wearing the retainer at night is all that’s needed over the long term.

Dr. Philippe Jean and the team at Lifestyle Dental Care in Margate take this phase seriously because we want your results to last. You'll receive clear instructions on how to use and care for your retainer, and we’re always available to answer follow-up questions as your smile settles into place. As with all our care, the focus remains on what’s best for your dental health in the long run, never on selling a service you don’t need.

We understand that starting something like Invisalign can feel like a big decision, especially for adult patients who have put off orthodontic care. Our warm, people-centered approach means you’ll feel supported every step of the way while receiving thoughtful, experienced care tailored to your comfort.
